Sierra Muzzle Loaders
Nevada County, California.

Welcome to our world of black powder shooting, buck skinning, rendezvous, and a continuing adventure in living history. It's healthy outdoor fun and fulfillment for the whole family. Sierra Muzzle Loaders is a non-profit club composed of active men, women, and children who appreciate our sturdy cultural heritage from the mountain men, those hardy fur trappers of the early Nineteenth Century who crossed the wide Missouri in search of beaver pelts and then stayed on to make possible the winning of the West. Their time in history was brief, just twenty years, from 1820 to 1840, but their contribution to the formation of the American character is timeless. Today groups like ours throughout America seek to preserve their frontier skills and crafts and hopefully to build into our children some of their moral fiber.

So whatever your interest - black powder shooting, camping and rendezvous, traditional skills and crafts such as leatherwork, Indian beadwork, black smithing, primitive cooking, the excitement of living out a colorful period of our history, or maybe some of each of these - get in touch with us and learn more about us. Whether you're married, single, young or old, male of female, you'll find the members of Sierra Muzzle Loaders are a friendly, fun-loving bunch, good citizens and hard-working supporters of their communities, quick to welcome newcomers and staunch in their loyalties. Come get to know us. We believe you'll like what you discover.

That's pretty much who we are. This is what we're NOT: We're neither a religious or political group, nor a bunch of paramilitary gun nuts. Religion and politics are personal matters and fanaticism of any sort has no place in Sierra Muzzle Loaders. The firearms we use are muzzle loading black power rifles, smooth bore, and pistols - patched round ball - except for a scattering of cap-and-ball pistols. Most of us try our hand at throwing knives and tomahawks, as well.

The club sponsors one or more "Primitive-Primitive" rendezvous for the "Purist". Everything must conform to the era 1820-1840 - lodges, clothing, equipment, ect. There is also an "open" rendezvous for the "non Purist". The Sierra Muzzle Loaders also fully support the California Department of Fish and Game re: animal parts (bear jaws, claws, ect.).

If you think you'd like to get to know us better, write to the post office box listed below. We'll be glad to tell you a lot more about Sierra Muzzle Loaders and to answer questions about black power, buck skinning, and rendezvous. Like we said, we're a friendly bunch and we're always looking for a few good pilgrims (and maybe a free trapper looking for the right brigade). If you think that we're right for you and that you're right for us, let's hear from you. You'll be welcome in camp.
